Annual Report

  • Year:
    2015
  • Please describe your organization’s activities over the past year, including concerts, commissions, collaborations, publications:

Felagið Føroysk Tónaskøld (FFT) (Association of Faroese Composers) organizes the annual Summartónar festival all over the Faroe Islands. With its focus on composition, the Summartónar festival is a continuous, vital dynamo in the development of Faroese music. The 2015 festival programme reflects its role as a platform for new works by Faroese composers, many of them first performances. In the past few years, Summartónar has also presented improvised music, as well as contemporary folk music. Also during the year, FFT has during the year 2015 organised over 200 concerts.
In international collaboration performers from Greece, Germany, Slovenia/Italy, Denmark, Iceland, USA have commissioned new works from several Faroese composers and performed these works in the Faroe Islands as well as abroad. Naturally these ensembles, as well as local artists, have played work from collaborating countries. Recordings with music from the 2015 activities have been released including works by young composers.
