Yesterday, after the closing concert of the Gaudeamus Muziekweek 2014, the winner of the Gaudeamus Prize 2014 was announced. From the five nominees, the international jury unanimously chose Anne Korsun (1986) from Ukraine. The members of the jury, consisting of Vanessa Lann, Wim Henderickx, and Oscar Bianchi felt the entries were varied and of high quality. About the winning composition the jury said:

On 2 August, the 47th Darmstadt International Summer Courses for New Music will open under the artistic direction of Thomas Schäfer with Karlheinz Stockhausen’s legendary composition Carré for four orchestras, four choirs, and four conductors, and Sir Harrison Birtwistle’s Cortege. The two-week festival (2-16 August 2014) features over 30 concerts, performances, semi-scenic musical theater events and experimental interventions that will take place in several different locations and spaces in Darmstadt.

2014/05/31 Annual International Young Composers Academy in Tchaikovsky city (Perm region), August 29 - September 13, 2014 is the large-scale international composer workshop in Russia. Artistic director is a composer Dmitri Kourliandski. Academy is a creative laboratory for young composers and musicians from around the world. During fortnight workshop the young composers write new compositions which are rehearsed and performed in a series of final concerts – in Tchaikovsky, in Perm and in Moscow by the leading Russian group – the Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble (MCME).

2014/04/30 Scelsiana 2014: a weeklong event with instrumental master classes, meetings, and concerts intended for young musicians who wish to gain greater insight into the music of Giacinto Scelsi. Concentrating on repertoire by this major 20th century composer, the project’s mission is to pass the knowledge of those who worked directly with the great Italian composer on to younger musicians, thus sharing his innovative vision of sound and his original approach to making music.
