Biography

Jouni Hirvelä is a Helsinki-based composer who likes to work with a wide range of instrumental and vocal special techniques, and who is interested in materiality and corporeality of sound. Hirvelä holds a Master's Degree from Sibelius Academy where he also currently pursues an artistic doctorate degree. He has won the Irino Prize 2017 composition competition with his work Atmenwerk. His music has been performed by Avanti Chamber Orchestra and Sakari Oramo, Talea Ensemble, Uusinta Ensemble, Kymi Sinfonietta, Helsinki Chamber Choir, Zagros Ensemble and Ensemble Adapter among others.
