Biography

Viera Janárčeková was born in Svit, Slovakia. She studied piano, conducting and composition at the Bratislava Conservatory and at the Academy of Musical Arts in Prague. She expanded her compositional horizons at IMD Darmstadt, with Cage, Feldman, Lachenmann, Kurtág, Rihm, Sciarrino and others. She won several awards, the latest at a contest in Seoul. Her works can be heard on the numerous radiostations or at international music festivals – in 2000, she premiered four compositions as composer in residence at Gidon Kremer’s Lockenhaus Festival. 2010-2011 she was honored with scholarship at the House of Artists Villa Concordia for her lifetime achievement.
