Biography

Lauri Kilpiö (b. 1974) took the finale exams in composition and piano playing at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland. He studied composition there with e.g. professor Paavo Heininen. The aesthetic starting points for Kilpiö’s works range from expressionism and neoimpressionism to texture and noise music. Kilpiö’s music has been played e.g. by the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Tapiola Sinfonietta, Avanti and several other Finnish orchestras. His works have been performed at various international contemporary music festivals in Finland and abroad. Since 2014 Kilpiö has been working as a lecturer in composition at the Sibelius Academy, Helsinki.
