Biography

Alexey Pegushev /Latvian Aleksejs Peguševs/ (1992) is a Latvian composer, pianist and improviser. He studied music composition at the Latvian Academy of Music (2010-2014) with professor Juris Karlsons and at Sibelius Academy (2014-2017) with Tapio Nevanlinna and Juhani Nuorvala, as well as Norwegian Academy of Music (2012) and Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (2015).
Alexey Pegushev’s work focuses on chamber music and vocal music but covers a wide variety of genres. Recent projects include collaborations with the Latvian Radio Choir, Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, Helsinki Chamber choir, Avanti! Chamber orchestra, and Divertimento Ensemble.
Alexey Pegushev holds a Master’s degree in linguistics from the University of Oxford (2018), which has deeply affected his approach to instrumental composition, in particular, constructing melodic lines inspired by the structure of human articulatory gestures. Alexey Pegushev’s compositions have been performed in Australia, Belgium, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden and the UK.
