Biography

Jānis Petraškevičs (1978) studied composition with Pēteris Plakidis in Rīga, Sven-David Sandström in Stockholm and Ole Lützow-Holm in Gothenburg. He has obtained PhD in musicology at the Latvian Academy of Music in 2014. He has received commissions from Ensemble Intercontemporain, Ensemble Modern, Nieuw Ensemble, Wigmore Hall and SWR. His music has been performed throughout Europe and elsewhere, including once each at the Biennale di Venezia (2008), the ISCM World Music Days (2008, Vilnius), the concert series Musica Viva in Munich (2012), the Warsaw Autumn (2013), the festival Ultraschall Berlin (2015), Archipel in Geneva (2015) and Donaueschinger Musiktage (2018).
