Biography

José A. San Miguel Alfaro was born in Zaragoza (Spain) in 1967. After obtaining his degree in accordion at the conservatories of Vitoria-Gasteiz and Donostia-San Sebastián and a BA in English from the University of the Basque Country, José Antonio San Miguel Alfaro travelled to Paris where he benefited from the advice of experts like Isabelle DUHA, Guy LAURENT and, above all, of the composer Claude BALLIF. Later, in Bayonne, he studied with composers Peio ÇABALETTE and Patrick DEFOSSEZ. There he ended up with the highest ratings in analysis studies, writing, composition, orchestration and electronic music.
José Antonio San Miguel Alfaro is interested in both new aesthetics and popular tradition, and has composed an extensive and diverse catalogue of symphonic contemporary music, wind-band, chamber music, electronics, sound installations, music for documentaries, commercials, television, digital media (DVD, internet...) ballets, choral music, arrangements…
