    Program Notes
Epione is work that explores the soothing effect that sound can have on the human body and mind. In particular, it explores how specific sounds can create autonomous physical responses such as tickling down the spine and rumbles in the stomach.

The work is inspired by the concept of ASMR (autonomous sensory meridian response), which is the subjective experience of a small euphoria that is often accompanied by a tingling sensation on the skin. Since 2013 ASMR has been celebrated in a large youtube community of homemade artists. Epione is a hymn to both this online community and the spirit of ASMR itself.

Improvisation is an integral part of the work. This is so the performers can utilize their current personal ASMR triggers and so the work can easily adapt to the room in which it is performed.
