Feery, Amanda: Pushing Air

Program notes:
Pushing Air is a battle between the patterns of the natural avian world situated within a very urban environment. The piece is a sonic reaction to my moving to New York City, having coming from living in the countryside; a place that was so deafeningly alive with the sounds of birdlife, to a city
saturated in industry. Both worlds have their own periodic patterns; from dawn choruses to 6am express trains, street sweepers and road rage. Ultimately, the piece is about these patterns co-existing, coming together to create a world that is sonically rich and unique in its own right.
