Notes

  • Program notes:

Due to development of computer software for compositional notation, pencil and paper, two things which were crucially important for a composer’s process, are slowly disappearing. This is why I drew the inspiration for this installation from my personal nostalgia.
The pencil and paper are transformed into the musical instrument where writing on the staves is accompanied by the electronic sound reproduced via soundbox. The sounds are created by the very writing on the staves and it changes according to the pressure one puts on the pencil, the thickness of the pencil trail, speed of writing…
The final result is unpredictable and it largely depends on who is holding the pencil, which makes this installation appropriate for all ages without the requirement of previous musical knowledge.
