Notes

  • Program notes:

The title Impromptu transcendental may evoke connotations of the 12 Transcendental Etudes by Franz Liszt. There are Liszt-influences in my piece, but not on a stylistic level, but in a philosophical sense.

In the case of Liszt's etudes and my piece, the word transcendental has many meanings. First, it may refer to the "supernatural" pianistic challenges. But it also refers to a situation, where virtuoso technique transforms into poesy and creates a magical, transcendental dimension for the music. There is also some etude-like feeling in my work: the fast motion is almost ceaseless, and the amount of musical materials is strictly limited.
