Notes

  • Program notes: 

    “Seelenklänge”, or sounds of the soul, is a piece in which the bodies of the performers become part of the instruments. In this way the essence/soul of the music is able to constantly move between the player and the instrument.

    Performance Instructions
    1. Airnoise Flute 6
    2. Jet Whistle 5
    3. Tongue-ram
    Voice (all projected into flute):
    1. Vocal fry
    2. Inhaled vocal fry
    3. Throat bass (like beatboxing)
    4. Tonque-klack
    5. Voice (Sing)
    Piano:
    1. Slightly dampen these string with blutac
    2. Notation for strings in #1 (above)
    3. Guero effect on the keys
    4. Play muted string (mute string with hand)
    5. Play lowest cluster with bassdrum mallet on the strings
    6. Swipe with back of hand on the lowest string: gliss. up
    7. Kick sustain pedal down
    8. Scrape length of string with plectrum
    9. Rub body of piano with superball mallet
    10. Let sustain pedal come up slowly (creating a roaring sound)
    11. Put e-bow on string
    12. Take e-bow off.
    Voice
    1. Breath noise/Airnoise
    2. Vocal fry
    3. Inhaled Vocal fry
    4. Throat bass (like beatboxing)
    5. Tongue-klack
    Violin
    1. Scratch sound (overpressured)
    2. Bow tailpiece
    3. Highest possible sound (no pitch)

    4. Bow behind the bridge
    Voice:
    1. Breath noise/Airnoise
    2. Vocal fry
    3. Inhaled Vocal fry
    4. Throat bass (like beatboxing)
    5. Tongue-klack
    The player with the arrows in her/his part cues the new sections.
