Notes

  • Program notes:

"Algorithm I" was an idea from a few years ago to create a meta-piece that almost literally tells how I compose and make my music: with algorithms. To my feeling, the formal male voice in the beginning fits well with the procedure-like style of a computer language. The other sounds I use, in contrast with the formality, arise from synthesis techniques that create chaotic sound from the feedback in digital delay lines.
In "Algorithm II" I further elaborate on this idea, using algorithms trying to control the chaos in the synthesizer sound. At times, hundreds of parameters are controlled simultaneously.
During composing my composition "Algorithm II" has become a metaphor for me of the search for predictability and certainty in a chaotic world that has more parameters than we can control. I think getting used to an inevitable dose of chaos is not a bad thing.
