From a contemporary review

“Thirty-one composers from nineteen countries were represented, and they gave a good cross-section of what is going on today in the creative musical world. Naturally not all of the music was of uniform consistency. In festivals like these it is a cause for celebration if two or three repertory works emerge. The I. S. C. M. is not seeking masterpieces, though naturally it welcomes them when they come along–as they have come along in the past. Rather, the I. S. C. M. wants to provide a forum where composers can meet, talk and hear each other’s music.”
