Honors in basic, natural and social sciences, and technology are joined in this award family by a category devoted to the recognition of excellence in contemporary music, a particularly innovative and influential area that does much to shape the culture of the era. The BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award in Contemporary Music distinguishes composers, conductors and performers who have demonstrated exceptional attainments in the classical music of the 20th and 21st centuries.
