Philip Dadson: Global Hockets

Philip Dadson (b. 1946) is a sound and intermedia artist with an interdisciplinary practice including solo performances and exhibitions, building experimental instruments and sonic objects, video/sound installation; music composition, graphic scores and improvisations on invented instruments. He is the founder of the sound-performance group, From Scratch, (1974–2002), known widely for its rhythmic and distinctive performances on original instruments. In 2005 he was made an officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit.

Global Hockets (1998/2018) is a two part composition originally composed for an interactive, analogue/digital media collaboration between From Scratch (NZ) and Supreme Particles (Frankfurt (Germany). Premiered in Aotearoa New Zealand, it subsequently toured to Europe and was later revised as a stand-alone music performance in association with an exhibition of From Scratch instruments in which version it was presented at the Auckland Arts Festival in 2018.
